Poland – Gdansk / Polska – Gdańsk

Gdansk (Gdańsk) is one of Poland’s most beautiful cities. Gdansk, a Harbour City of Poland is situated on the coast of the central Baltic Sea and together with two other cities namely Gdynia and Sopot, it forms a metropolitan area called the Tricity (Trójmiasto). The city is an important Polish port where Lech Walesa, leader of Solidarnosc, worked as an electrician in the 1970’s and in 1980’s. Solidarnosc was the labor and democracy movement that helped to bring down the Communist regime in Poland, and subsequently marked the beginning of the end of the Cold War. Such leaders of the anti-communist movements like Lech Walesa are in fact the fathers of the united Europe we know today.

The principal attractions of Gdansk complice:

  • Long Market & Neptune Fountain
  • Main City Hall
  • The Crane
  • The Central Marine Museum
  • Uphagen House
  • The Artur Court
  • The Royal Road
  • The High Gate
  • The Fore Gate with the Torture House
  • The Golden House
  • The Green Gate at the Motława River
  • Mariacka and Piwna Streets with city terraces in front of façades and gargoyles
  • The Great Mill
  • The Great Armoury

  1. These are really beautiful. I’ve been to Warsawa and the Tatry Mountains, but not Gdansk. It’s on my wish list but not likely in the near future. I’m in Krakow briefly at the end of this month.

  3. I’m going to have to follow your blog – I have Polish ancestry and will be planning a trip there at some point. Gdansk is one of the places family came from so it’s great to see these photos.

Pozdrawiam z W-wy 🙂

      • O, a jakie widzisz różnice w mentalności?

  4. If I had to choose my favorite city on the coast surely would be a Gdańsk. It is incredibly energetic place with many sights and restaurants serving great food. The great example is here for sure Szarafnia 10. It is located mear the Motława River and the glazed terrace you can enjoy this amazing river. Dishes of seafood and fish which are served there are excellent..
